Upgrades - MS Series CacheMS Series Upgrade Options
Introduction
The cache is an amount of memory which is faster than main memory and is used as a
temporary store for data before it is used by the processor. It has the effect of speeding
up higher performance PCs. Note that there are two types of cache: internal cache or first
level cache which may be built into the processor chip (depending on the processor type);
and external or second level cache which is separate to the processor.
At present, only on the MS530 (product code MK) and the MS540 (product
code MT) do you have the ability to install a cache module.
If your MS Series computer (MK & MT) came without any cache fitted
you can install a 256Kb module of either of the following types:-
256Kb Pipelined Synchronous cache module
or
256Kb Asynchronous Cache module
You should be able to obtain either of these parts from
your local PC World store.
Advice on 512Kb cache modules
Although 3rd Party 512Kb cache modules are available and in theory one should work in your
computer, we have yet to find one that works reliably.
We therefore advise you to only fit 256Kb cache modules in
your computer.
