The Apricot LS500 Series meets
the needs of today's most demanding business users. Fully specified, with a choice of the
very latest Pentium® and Pentium II® processors, Ultra ATA hard
disks and advanced SDRAM memory technology, every LS500 is designed to offer the widest
possible choice of price and specification, providing sufficient technology headroom to
ensure it caters with the demands of software platforms both now and in
the future. Using the latest Intel 430TX and 440LX
chipset technologies and including a highly integrated hardware management controller the
LS500 Series has been designed to provide the lowest ownership costs of any PC platform.
With 512KB Level 2 processor cache and 16-bit business
audio as standard features on all models, LS500 systems are ready to exploit the power of
new technologies such as Internet, voice messaging and other applications. Completing the
specification is the optional x16 speed CD-ROM from market leaders, Sony.
Processor choice
The Pentium® Processor with MMX(TM) technology includes all of the features of a standard Pentium®
processor, plus more. Because of its improvements you'll experience greater performance in
all applications and smoother, more realistic results from multimedia based applications.
With all major software vendors now supplying their standard software MMX enabled, MMX
technology is a pre-requisite for system longevity. Pentium II® systems
further enhance performance and with options up to 300MHz, applications previously
available only on proprietary workstation platforms are now routinely being deployed on
performance PCs. |
Ready to
network
Each LS500 system may be specified with an auto-sensing 10/100Mbit/s ethernet interface.
These high performance 'plug & play' NICs provide optimum performance with current 10
Mbit/sec networks and 100Mbit/sec networks alike. Wake-on-LAN functionality, allowing
remote management and support of client PCs simplifying IT support and reducing ownership
costs. For clients with investment in other networking standards, LS500 systems can be
supplied without a network card, allowing integration with Token Ring or ATM technology. Easy to manage
All Apricot LS500 systems include enhanced manageability as standard. Designed to
be compliant with the latest DMI 2 specification, each is supplied with a Windows
application allowing a complete inventory of the system to be made including firmware
and software revision levels. Based upon established industry standards, the supplied
application allows full co-operation with third-party network management tools; ensuring a
simple and cost effective installation into both new and existing company sites.
In addition, each LS550 Pentium® system is
supplied with 'Electronic Fingerprinting'. This allows your choice of information (e.g.
company name, department, asset number, etc..) to be permanently recorded within each
system, ensuring a permanent record of system ownership to be available. A sophisticated
hardware management controller monitors the status of system critical items such as
temperature, power and hard disk performance; controlling the fan speed to maintain an
even system temperature; providing predictive drive failure notification and alerting the
system administrator to |

All models incorporate integrated 16-bit audio
allowing maximum use of today's multimedia rich operating systems and applications.
Coupled with the x16 speed Sony CD-ROM, you can now have the benefit of high quality
business audio through the unit's built-in speaker, or, for maximum quality through
external speakers. Should your application demand additional multimedia capabilities, the
on-board audio may be enhanced by use of the optional wave table module upgrade (or
disabled completely allowing an alternate interface to be implemented).
