Workgroup computing is based upon providing groups of users with personal control and close communication. The Apricot XEN-PCLS adds another important factor to the equation - power. This range of systems is engineered to serve the workgroup user completely, by integrating all of the required elements together with outstanding performance

The Network Connection

The XEN-PCLS has been designed from the ground up to live in a networked environment. The integral Ethernet controller's high performance eliminates potential bottle-necks ensuring even the most network-intensive applications leave no-one waiting.

For Your Eyes Only

Sharing information is the basis for successful workgroup computing, though it is vitally important to share it with the right people. This is why every XEN-PCLS is provided with an impregnable security system that would make an average personal computer seem like a free-for-all. Using Apricot's LOC Technology, dedicated hardware is built into the XEN-PCLS to deter even the most streetwise hacker.

Something for Everyone

To fully satisfy the demands of even the most varied group of users, the XEN-PCLS is available with five high performance processor options. To begin there is the mid-range workhorse the Intel 486DX2-66 and then the 486DX4-100, followed by the Pentium-75 and 90MHz processor options. At the top end of the scale, the next generation Intel Pentium-120 provides breathtaking power and an unstoppable appetite for hard work. Combined with Apricot's thoroughbred design, the result is a range of the most powerful desktop systems available. All models provide excellent graphics performance due to accelerated video controllers that use rapid Local Bus processor connections.

Enhanced Business Audio

Configured especially for the discerning professional user, the XEN-PCLS audio system uses 16-bit digital technology to ensure crystal-clear recording and playback Complete adherence to Microsoft's Multimedia Personal Computer (MPC) standard means problem-free compatibility with the mass of available applications. The pre-loaded software utilities include a stereo mixer to finely balance the numerous signal and sound inputs. When the correct mix is attained, the result is output through the in-built amplified speakers. Volume can be adjusted via software or by using the integral front panel buttons.

Apricot Microphone

Ready to take your commands and messages, the unique Apricot microphone is supplied as standard and clips neatly onto the keyboard.

Embedded Networking

On-board networking is efficiently handled by an embedded Ethernet controller. This device takes full responsibility for maintaining a smooth flow of information and allows the system processor to concentrate on non-networking tasks. Connection to most existing networks is supported as Thin, Thick and Twisted Pair Ethernet, connectors are all provided at the rear panel. A full range of high performance drivers covering all the major network standards are included as standard.

Solid Security

In a busy office environment, it is essential that information remains safe from prying eyes. The job of keeping your data safe is handled by special Apricot LOC Technology. This in-built, independent security system ensures that without the correct user identification and password, your system is rendered useless. The optional infra-red KeyLOC security card is used like an electronic key. In conjunction with the user identification and password features, the security system forms an unbeatable defence against even the most determined data thief.

From 486DX2-66 to Pentium-120

A selection of five processor options allows the level of performance to be exactly matched to the needs of every user. As requirements change, the system can be upgraded using the industry standard processor socket.

Integrated CD-ROM Interface

For those with the need to access the wealth of CD-ROM titles, the XEN-PCLS provides an easy upgrade path. Within the system an integral CD-ROM controller is ready and waiting to accept one of the optional Sony double speed drives available from Apricot.

High speed local bus

To provide the fastest possible route for data, all XEN-PCLS models incorporate local bus technology to join the processor to key peripheral devices. Pentium models provide a PCI expansion slot to allow add-in boards to take advantage of the closely coupled 32-bit bus.

Video acceleration

The stunning video performance of the XEN-PCLS models is made possible by the use of accelerated local bus video processors. Using the 32-bit local bus to couple each video accelerator to the main system processor ensures that even the most graphically intensive applications move like lightening.

High resolution 14", 15" and 17" Monitors

Each XEN-PCLS is supplied with a choice of high resolution monitors that perfectly match the fast graphic capabilities of the systems. All monitor options meet and exceed the latest European standards for safety and emissions.

With BS 5750 (ISO 9000) accreditation from sales, marketing, research and development through to manufacture in Scotland, Apricot have been building quality into every computer system for more than twelve years.
