Qi 386SX-16 with 120MB Internal Tape Drive
Not Reading DD Disks
When installing a Qi 120MB Internal Tape Drive (Irwin Model-285) on the
Qi 386SX series, check the revision of Floppy Disk Controller (FDC IC 131). We have had
problems reported reading Double Density disks with FDCs numbered :-
NEC 785AC or NEC 765BC
If you have this part, it should be replaced with an NEC D72065C which
can be obtained from Network Si Group on Part Number 12160130. This IC was also present on
early Qi 386 machines (Qi 600), but on testing it did not show any problems. Please
remember that Qi internal 40MB and 120MB tape drives are NOT supported on rev C
motherboards. |
