Qi 300 Revision 'E' Battery Socket

The socket type used to connect the CMOS battery backup to the motherboard on Qi 300 Revision 'E' system units has changed from a 2 pin Minispox socket, to a 2 pin jumper style connector. The change was made to reduce confusion between three sockets, all of the same type at the front edge of the motherboard. The type of socket used, however, does allow the battery to be reverse polarity connected.

Reverse connection does not appear to cause any damage to the battery or the system board, but does result in continual loss of CMOS data when system power is removed.

For correct connection, when viewed from the front of the system unit, the positive battery lead should be connected to the right pin of the connector.

Note: Revision 'E' Qi 300 systems are identified by having a model number greater than 43000.
