DX2 Processor Upgrade to FTs

When installing / upgrading the processor IC in FTs system units, it should be noted that there are no minimum motherboard revision levels. There are, however, some motherboard components that must be at a specific revision. Two GALs that control 'Gate A20' and 'Snooping' should be at the following revision:-

IC92 SCOE092VB 12186931
IC26 SCOE026VB 12186831

These GALs are for Scorpion Rev 'E' motherboards only. A copy of the revised installation note (part number 14966031) is attached to this document. If any installations have been completed without the upgrade of these devices, copies of IC92 and IC26 may be obtained (FOC) from Technical Support on 021 717 7171.

Note:

It is the recommendation of Technical Support that before re-fitting the processor IC, the motherboard be removed and placed on a flat anti-static surface. This will ensure that undue stress is not placed on the motherboard PCB during insertion of the processor.

By placing an anti-static mat by the side of the system unit and cutting the tie that holds the ribbon cable routed from power distribution board to PL6 (do not disconnect), the motherboard may be removed and placed on the mat without discharging CMOS. The ribbon cable connected to PL6 carries battery power from the distribution board to the CPU to maintain CMOS memory.

It is also recommended that the BACKUP option on the reference diskette is used to store the POS system settings before any work is started.
