Using VX-NET 3.13 on a Qi PCi with a Western Digital E'net Card

Qi PCi as a Server

Using the Reference disk, set the "Shared" Memory address to DC00 and save the new configuration, no changes are necessary to the card itself.

Install the network software and from within NETGEN select XEN-i as the server type. After disk production has been carried out, modify the Server’s CONFIG.SYS so that line containing the SERVER.SYS entry reads as follows :

DEVICE=SERVER.SYS /M:DC00H

The Server can now be booted as normal.

Qi PCi as a Workstation

Using the Reference disk, set the "Shared" Memory address to C000 and save the new configuration, no changes are necessary to the card itself.

After creating the Workstation’s boot disk, modify the AUTOEXEC.BAT file so that the first reference to AMLOAD.EXE, usually the EXPORT entry, reads as follows :-

AMLOAD.EXE /M:C400,E000 EXPORT.EXE /NVCS:4

In both these cases VX-NET 3.13 MUST be used as it contains the correct version of ETHERNET.SYS (VR 3.1.4).

Whenever disk production is carried out on the Server or Workstation, the changes made to the relevant CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files will have to be redone.

Note :

If a revision X3 Western Digital MCA Ethernet card is being used it will be necessary to use a different version of the ETHERNET.SYS device driver. This driver, version 3.15.01 (beta), is available from the Apricot Bulletin Board under area 98.
