Installing the Apricot Remote Boot Service on 3Com 3+OPEN

We have found that the installation of 3Com 3+OPEN and the remote boot service need to be performed in a specific order to enable the remote boot service to function correctly.

These steps are as follows:

  1. Install 3Com 3+OPEN and configure the server using the local loopback driver then reboot the server.
  2. Insert the server environment pack disk and install the appropriate Ethernet driver.
  3. Run NETSETUP and configure the server for the installed Ethernet driver.
  4. Stop the server by typing NET STOP RDR /Y
    followed by CACHE /STOP.
Next, shut down OS/2 then reboot the server.
  5. Install the remote boot service from the server environment disk.
  6. Shut the server down again by repeating step 4.

You can now follow the installation guide for setting up the remote boot service.

When the remote boot service has been fully installed, make sure the version of DISK02.SYS on the server is dated 19-09-90, as this is the version of DISK02.SYS that we know to work with the remote boot service. If you do not have this version it can be obtained from file area 54 on the Apricot BBS.
