Novell NetWare 2.xx/3.xx DOS and Windows Client Upgrades

Novell have released two new client updates for DOS and Windows workstations. These updates are available from authorised Novell distributors, from the Novell NetWire service, or from the Apricot Technical Support Bulletin Board System.

The updates have been shipped by Novell as 2 files, DOSUP5.ZIP (349K) and WINUP6.ZIP (276K). Both these files can be found in File Area 37 of the Apricot Technical Support Bulletin Board, and they supersede all previous releases of the DOS and Windows Client Upgrade Kits.

DOSUP5.ZIP contains all the DOS workstation shell files (NETX.COM, XMSNETX.EXE and EMSNETX.EXE version 3.26), support for both IPX and ODI drivers (IPX.OBJ version 3.10, IPXODI.COM and LSL.COM version 1.20, along with RPLFIX (for DOS 5 remote booting), RPLODI (for ODI remote booting), NETBIOS, and numerous support files. There is a full readme file in the archive, along with a complete shell history document. This file contains all that was previously in two separate update archives (DOSUPx.ZIP and ODIUPx.ZIP).

WINUP6.ZIP contains all the Windows 3.0/3.1 specific drivers, and will be needed in addition to DOSUP5.ZIP for all DOS workstations that run Microsoft Windows 3.0 or 3.1. The archive includes the NetWare Driver Set v2.0 for Windows 3.0 and 3.1, as well as various NetWare API library DLLs. Support for IPX/SPX under Windows 3.0 and 3.1 is included, as well as VPICDA.386 for Windows 3.0 interrupt conflicts. Again, a full readme is included in the archive.

As well as the above two archives, Novell have also issued a patch kit for the NetWare shell (v3.26) supplied with Windows 3.1. KBD326.ZIP contains patches for NETX.COM, XMSNETX.EXE and EMSNETX.EXE to overcome a problem where a broadcast message received by its sender will cause a keyboard reset, which in turn can cause problems with certain applications. The patch is available for download from File Area 37 of the Apricot Technical Support Bulletin Board, as well as from Novell's NetWire service, as KBD326.ZIP (24K). These patches will NOT be needed for the shell files in DOSUP5.ZIP as downloaded from the Apricot Technical Support Bulletin Board, as the patches have already been applied.

We recommend that all sites running DOS or Windows workstations upgrade their NetWare shells and drivers to the versions in the upgrade sets documented above.
