Installing Banyan Vines 4.11 onto an FTe Rev F

We have recently had a number of reports of Banyan Vines installations failing on Apricot FTe Rev F servers whilst the install routine is preparing the fixed disk partition table. The server would typically either lock up with no disk activity (even though the front panel hard disk light was on), or would report a Kernel Panic 2.

After some investigation, it has been found that for Vines to be installed correctly onto an Apricot FTe Rev F, some changes need to be made to the default Reference/Setup disk configuration. These changes are as follows:-

1) Change the following options for the Adaptec AHA-1640 SCSI Host Adapter:-

Arbitration Level: Level_1
Interrupt Level: IRQ_14

2) If the FTs has more than 8MB of memory installed, change the following option within the INTERNAL OPTIONS section:-

Memory Cache: Disabled between 8 and 16MBytes

We also suggest that during the installation, you ensure that the system is booted and installed from the 'mC SCSI' Install/Utility disk supplied with your Vines install disks.

Note: This does not affect the FTe Rev D and still applies to the FTs as per IPB 2079.
