Novell NetWare 3.11 Operating System Patches
and Updates
Novell have just released version 8 of the operating system patch kit
for NetWare 3.11.
311PT8.ZIP contains 39 patches for Novell NetWare 3.11. Version 8 of the
kit supersedes all previous releases of the 3.11 OS patches distributed by Novell (under
the names 311PT1.ZIP, 311PT2.ZIP, 311PT3.ZIP, 311PT4.ZIP, 311PT5.ZIP, 311PT6.ZIP and
311PT7.ZIP).
Version 8 of the patch kit includes all the patches found in previous
releases, and four new patches.
The new patches are as follows (text taken from the release document

DUPFIX.NLM

This patch fixes a problem in which a certain sequence
would cause duplexed drives to report all mirrored drives were in sync after a hardware
failure, yet they were not. DUPFIX.NLM must be loaded in memory at the time a hardware
error occurs with the disk drive. |

This file corrects a problem of the server leaving files
open. This patch changes the length of the reply buffer in the StationControl structure. |
UNLCKFIX.NLM

VREPAIR.NLM

This version fixes problems where vrepair has not been
able to correct errors in the FAT or Directory tables. Vrepair has been enhanced to now
check for errors, and in the algorithm used in comparing values for the correct entry. |
Also, a number of the patches have been modified to work with the 1000
user version of NetWare 3.11, and two of the patches, SPXFSFIX.NLM and XMDFIX.NLM, have
been updated (XMDFIX.NLM replaces XMCFIX.NLM [first added in 311PT3.ZIP]).
As with previous versions of the patch kit, Novell do not require that
any of the patches in the archive be loaded UNLESS problems are experienced, in which case
the appropriate patch to overcome the problem encountered should be loaded. There is a
full readme document in the archive that explains what all the patches are and what they
fix. In particular, any patches to fix ABEND or disk FAT errors should be checked before
reporting problems to Technical Support.
Version 8 of the NetWare 3.11 Operating System patch kit is available as
a single archive, 311PT8.ZIP (102088 bytes), and can be obtained from Authorised Novell
Distributors, from the Novell NetWire service, or from the Apricot Technical Support
Bulletin Board System (in file area 37).
