Apricot Machines with PS/2 mice &
Windows/Windows for Workgroups 3.1
It has been found that Apricot machines fitted with PS/2 mice may appear
to hang or take longer than expected to exit Windows. This behaviour is caused by a
problem in the PS/2 mouse BIOS. The computer is not hung, however it remains frozen for up
to a minute while the mouse port is reinitialized.
The problem can be corrected by adding the following line to the
[386Enh] section of the Windows SYSTEM.INI:
InitPS2MouseAtExit=FALSE
This prevents Windows from attempting to reinitialize the PS/2 style
mouse port prior to exiting to MS-DOS. This may cause problems when you run some
mouse-aware MS-DOS based applications after exiting Windows.
N.B. This problem is not specific to Apricot and also
affects IBM PS/2 machines and any other manufacturers PC that uses a PS/2 style mouse
port.
