NetWare v4.0 and SBACKUP on Apricot SCSI based servers

When installing Novell NetWare v4.0 and a server based SCSI tape streamer for use with SBACKUP v4.0, the following steps should be carried out at installation time.

Firstly, during the install procedure the SCSI card drivers should be installed. During the install procedure, you will be prompted to copy the drivers to your boot device; this option should be selected.

Apricot currently support two types of SCSI controllers for FT//e & FT//s

AHA1640.DSK Adaptec AHA1640 Disk Driver. This will auto copy ASPITRAN.DSK the Adaptec ASPI driver.
BT40.DSK BusLogic BT-646S Disk Driver. This doesn't auto copy its ASPI driver, so BTASPI.DSK will also have to be selected and installed.

To be able to use SBACKUP, Novell's ASPI Tape driver interface needs to be loaded. Again, this driver needs to be installed at installation time.

TAPEDAI.DSK Novell's ASPI Tape interface.

For correct operation of SBACKUP, TAPEDAI.DSK should be loaded via STARTUP.NCF. If TAPEDAI.DSK is not load at start-up, NetWare v4.0's operating system will not recognise any tape devices. To overcome this after loading TAPEDAI.DSK use the command "scan for new devices" at the system console. The tape streamer will then be recognised by the operating system and function correctly. Loading TAPEDAI.DSK from STARTUP.NCF will eliminate the need for the "scan for new devices" command as the device will be available as the server initialises itself.

Example STARTUP.NCF

LOAD AHA1640.DSK SLOT=3
LOAD TAPEDAI

Example AUTOEXEC.NCF
