Conner Backup Exec and Adaptec 1640 Card

We have encountered a problem with Conner Backup Exec locking up when used with the Adaptec 1640 SCSI card.

The locking up is caused by the SMARTDRV.EXE driver using Double Buffering in the config.sys file but Conner Backup Exec, when used with the Adaptec 1640 also requires the ASPI4DOS.SYS driver version 3.0 or above.

The following steps should be taken to overcome the problem.

Remove the line SMARTDRV.EXE /DOUBLEBUFFER from the config.sys file.

Download EZSCSI32.ZIP from Apricot Insight BBS in file area 41.

Run the EZSCSI utility, this will install the latest version of ASPI4DOS.SYS, copy the required Windows drivers and update the config.sys.
