CD-ROM Support as a NetWare Volume under NetWare 3.12 / 4.01

All SCSI controllers that Apricot sell and support, can support CD-ROM drives under NetWare 3.12 and 4.01.

Adaptec

Load Disk driver and ensure ASPI module is loaded.
LOAD ASPICD.DSK (Located on server's DOS boot device)
LOAD CDROM.NLM
Type "CD HELP" for an explanation how to Mount a CD as a NetWare Volume

BusLogic

Load Disk driver, ensure "EXCLUDE_IDS= ?" is on command line
i.e. LOAD BT312 PORT=330 EXCLUDE_IDS=6

Load ASPI driver
i.e. LOAD BTASPI

LOAD CDNASPI.DSK (Located on server's DOS boot device)

LOAD CDROM.NLM

Type "CD HELP" for an explanation how to Mount a CD as a NetWare Volume

Note:
Under NetWare 4.x the following error will occur when trying to mount a CD-ROM volume:

Unable to locate user group supervisor access read only error

After several seconds, the volume starts mounting then a lot of errors (about 100) are displayed and the file server beeps. However, the volume eventually mounts.

This is a cosmetic problem (performance is not effected), and Novell is working on a solution. When NetWare mounts a volume it writes to the device. The errors occur before the driver checks if it is a READ ONLY device. When the driver finally verifies that it is a READ ONLY device, NetWare creates a dummy file on the SYS: volume, writes to that file, then mounts the volume.

This IPB supersedes a previous version, dated 18th November 1993, which it wholly replaces.
