Installing an IBM Token Ring Adapter in a XEN-PCm

Problems have been encountered when installing an IBM Token Ring Adapter card into a XEN-PCm.

The problem is with the base I/O address, conflicting on both the SoundBlaster and Token Ring adapter cards. Both cards default to base I/O 220, and the IBM Token Ring Adapter card cannot be changed.

The following steps must be taken to overcome the conflict:

Change the SoundBlaster base I/O to 240 by moving the jumper labelled JP6 from address 22x to 24x.

Change the Token Ring IRQ address to 3, by changing the following dip switch settings on the Token Ring card

7 ON
8 OFF

The CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files should be edited to reflect the change made with the SoundBlaster base I/O address.

CONFIG.SYS

DEVICE=SLCD.SYS /B:250

AUTOEXEC.BAT

SET BLASTER=A240

Microsoft Windows will also need to be changed. The SoundBlaster driver, under Control Panel, Drivers should be changed to base I/O 240.

These steps should resolve any conflict problems.
