FT//s and FT//e Servers with 32 bit MCA cards in Slot 4

A number of problems have been reported to the Technical Support Group recently involving FT//s and FT//e servers with 32 bit cards in slot 4 where the cards have been reported as failing.

After some investigation, it appears that the problem has been caused by an incorrect value in the CMOS POS registers for slot 4 in these systems, which causes 32 bit MCA cards to be incorrectly read.

Where a system is found to have a problem with a 32 bit card in slot 4, the current settings of all the MCA cards in the system (and the internal options) should be noted, along with the SIN number from the I/O board, and then the system should have its CMOS memory drained by using SW 3 on the I/O board.

The system should then be reconfigured using the Reference/Setup Diskette (release 8.2 or later) to the settings recorded above. The card in slot 4 should then operate correctly.
