General Notes on Backup

Tape backup systems are strongly recommended for all Xenix/Unix systems, for speed and reliability. However, no backup system is foolproof, so even if a good quality tape drive is in use, it is essential that a verification pass is carried out on all backups. For 'tar' backups this simply involves running 'tar tvf' and listing the files and checking for errors.
