X Windows on the XEN-PC 560 (Revenge) using the standard video card

The standard video card in the XEN-PC 560 at the present time is the ATI Mach 32.

To configure Open Server 3.0 / Open Desktop 3.0 to run in a satisfactory resolution the following should be done:

  • Use the latest Advanced Graphics Adapter EFS. Our tests were carried out with release 3.4. IPB 3175 describes this supplement and how to obtain it.

  • Use the mkdev graphics command and select the add option. Select the "ATI Ultra Pro or Ultra Plus" driver at the required resolution. Unix Support have tested operation at 1024x768x256 colours at a refresh rate of 70Hz. For this resolution select the "8514A 1024x768 256-colour non-interlaced 70Hz" option. Various resolutions up to 1280x1024x256 colours at 74Hz are possible dependant upon the monitor being used and the amount of memory fitted on the ATI card.
