FT//s and FT//e with SCO OprenSever 5

SCO OpenServer 5 should install on these systems and the earlier FTs and FTe with the following limitations. It should be noted however that only limited testing with such systems has been done as they are no longer current products.

  • The BusLogic card will be recognised as an Adaptec 1640 at install time. The BusLogic rel 1.4 driver is untested with OpenServer 5 and is not recommended. We do have a later driver, rel 2.6, but the driver documentation supplied does not refer to OpenServer 5. It appears to work under OpenServer 5, but it is unsupported by Apricot.

  • The 3Com 3C527 Ethernet card is unsupported. The driver was written by Apricot and is not compatible with OpenServer 5. The 3C529 Etherlink III card should be used an alternative, as OpenServer 5 ships with an Etherlink III driver included.

Note however that the use of the Mk1 FT (VX FT) is not recommended for the latest versions of SCO products such as OpenServer 5 and Unix 3.2v4.2. The hardware was suitable for the SCO Unix available during the life of these systems. Many of these older machines have been unreliable with Unix 3.2v4.2 and it is expected that similar results will occur if OpenServer 5 is installed. Problems such as panics and system hangs are likely.
