Buffered Printer Switches

Using certain buffered printer switches, a problem has been experienced which causes the printed output to be corrupted. Symptoms include missing characters, extra characters, incorrect attributes (underlining, emboldening etc.), overprinting and so on.

The problem is that printing through Windows with the default option 'Fast Printing Direct to Port' can be too fast for some switches, and that this option should be disabled in these cases.

The option is found by selecting Control Panel then Printers then Connect.

Beware that this problem can arise not only on initial installation, but may also occur following the upgrade of a system with a later revision motherboard.

If problems are found using this type of device, we recommend contacting the switch supplier before investing time and effort investigating what appears to be a system problem: it may well be a switch problem.
