Third Party UPS on XEN-LS II

A problem has been identified with certain commercial UPS's which run under NetWare's UPS NLM and operate through the mouse port to signal status of the UPS.

This problem only affects XEN-LS II systems, no other products are affected. Only mouse port connection will show the problem, normal serial port is OK.

The problem occurs when the "LOW BATTERY" signal is made to the system by the UPS. This is done by shorting the clock line on the mouse port to ground. This then causes the system to no longer respond to keyboard or mouse control. Eventually NetWare will report that it can no longer talk to the keyboard controller.

It is therefore recommended that this type of UPS is not used on XEN-LS II systems. If UPS's with a control mechanism are required then the normal serial port option should be used.
