Hard Disk Tips

1GB IBM Spitfire Drive Installation

When inserting the hard disk into FT//e care needs to be taken not to damage the plastic insulation on the drive bay metal work. If necessary, physically bend the FT//e metal work so that there is no possibility of stripping the insulation.

Also care needs to be taken not to over-tighten the mounting screws in the plastic inserts. There is a maximum torque setting which must not be exceeded - this is 0.7N/M.

2GB IBM Alleycat Drive Installation

Care needs to be taken not to short out the drive electronics, for this reason the insulation sheet supplied should be used to separate the drive from the metal work, especially when using the Dual HD mounting bracket.

The Alleycat drive can be mounted by using IBM's own fixing points or the industry standard fixing points. If the industry standard points are used the short length screws supplied must be used, alternatively use the plastic sleeve and spacing washer to insulate the drive, care still needs to be taken not to over tighten the screws on to the drive assembly.
