Monitor Frequency Setup for XEN-PC (A1) Machines
When using the XEN-PC (A1) in Windows at high resolutions, the default
setup for the monitor is to run in Interlaced mode. This often means that a flicker is
noticeable by the peripheral vision.
If you are using a SVGAe monitor at 1024 x 768 resolution, you cannot
change this. It is a limitation of the SVGA standard.
If, however, you are using an EVGAe monitor, you can use a utility
called CLMODE to specify the hardware frequency settings for the different monitor
resolutions.
This utility can be found on the '5426-28 Drivers Disk 1 - DOS Utilities
& Help' disk. To install, place the disk in the floppy drive, move to the floppy drive
and type :
[d:] install [RETURN]
The top line of the Selections available should be 'Cirrus Logic GD542x
Utilities'. If this is not the case, and the option does not appear anywhere else in the
list, you will need to edit the 'Install.dat' file. This is discussed in the Amending CL
Utilities Installation later in this document.
Assuming that you were able to install the utilities, move to the
directory where the utilities were installed and run the program 'CLMODE'.
Choose the 'Monitor Type' option...
Choose 'Set Advanced'...
You can now change the values of the frequency to any listed for the
specified resolution.
When you have changed the settings, choose 'OK', and choose 'Verify'
from the previous window. This allows you to check the display at the settings you have
chosen without having to exit the program.
Once you are happy with the changes you have made, from the main window,
choose 'Exit'. If you have made any changes, this will ask you if you would like to save
the changes to the 'autoexec.bat' file.
Doing this ensures that the settings chosen are loaded each time the
system is restarted.
Amending CL Utilities Installation
If you were unable to install the 'Cirrus Logic GD542x Utilities' from
the drivers disk, you will need to edit the file 'install.dat' located on the '5426-28
Drivers Disk 1 - DOS Utilities & Help' disk.
Assuming that you have loaded the file into your favourite editor, use
the editors search facility, looking for ''Cirrus Logic GD542x Utilities".
When you locate this line, you should find that at the start and the end
of the line are the characters '/*' and '*/' respectively.
Remove these characters, and save the file. This should now allow you to
install the utilities. |
