New LS Pro - Processor Upgrades

The new (Caracal) LS Pro cannot be upgraded using a co-processor.

If it is required to upgrade a new LS Pro 486SX-33, this can be achieved as follows:

  1. Replace the existing 486SX processor with a 486DX2-66 'S' stepping processor. The correct step of processor can be identified by the markings on the chip or the label on the heatsink - it MUST be SX795 or greater. DX2 processors must be fitted with a heatsink, part number 14941731. If you attach a heatsink, make sure you copy the details on top of the chip onto a label before you attach the heatsink, then stick the label on the heatsink.

  2. Move the jumper on PL25 from 'SX' to 'OTHER'.

  3. To gain maximum performance benefit, fit the 256K Cache RAM Upgrade, product code BP53934.

NB: The September '94 issue of The Apricot Buyer shows the 33MHz co-processor as an option for the new LS Pro - this is incorrect.
