Matrox Video card installation on XEN-PCLS (Feature card)

Failure of Matrox Driver Installation

When installing the Matrox drivers the user is prompted for the directory path from which Windows is being run, the setup routine confirms the validity of the path by verifying that WIN.COM is present in that directory. However, with pre-installed WFWG on a system, WIN.COM is renamed WINN.COM until WINNET.BAT is run and so the Matrox driver installation fails.

The Apricot Factory Pre-installed software includes the AMD Ethernet drivers already installed and configured in WFWG.

If the system is booted without a network connection and Windows loaded with <WIN> rather than <WIN /N>the system will appear to hang as WFWG is waiting for a network response.

To stop this occurring Apricot have made the following modifications to the WFWG installation. WIN.COM is renamed WINN.COM. A batch file called WIN.BAT is present which runs the command WINN /N and displays the following message :

Microsoft Windows for WorkGroups will now start with network drivers disabled.
When you have correctly installed this system onto your network you can re-enable the network drivers by typing WINNET.

The short term solution

Run WINNET.BAT first before loading Windows then run Windows with the /N switch unless the system is connected to a network and then run the Matrox setup program.

This change will be implemented in the next release of pre-installed software.
