Changes to Hutchinson Multimedia Encyclopedia CD

As part of Apricot's ongoing commitment of providing the most up-to-date products available with our Multimedia systems, we are in the process of updating the Hutchinson Multimedia Encyclopedia application supplied with MS540 systems, to a new version (version 1.24).

This update requires that the software must be installed from the supplied CD-ROM, and NOT TO run it from the existing Windows 95 icon.

If the existing Pre-installed Windows 95 icon is used, an error message will be displayed suggesting that 'the Windows 95 registry is Corrupt' and prompting the user to re-start the computer.

To install the program from the CD-ROM, follow these simple steps:

  • Ensure that Windows 95 is running.
  • Place the Hutchinson Encyclopedia CD in the CD-ROM drive.
  • Click on the 'Start' button on the taskbar, then select 'Run' from the pop-up menu. In the box provided type: D:\SETUP.EXE (where D is the letter of your CD-ROM drive).
  • Click on 'OK'
  • The Setup program will fully install Hutchinson Multimedia Encyclopedia automatically. It may ask you to confirm various pieces of information (for example, the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive). If so, answer the questions and click on OK or Continue.

When Setup is complete, a new Program group will be created on the Windows Desktop, containing Hutchinson Multimedia Encyclopedia and a Readme file containing the latest update information.

Starting Hutchinson Multimedia Encyclopedia:

  • Double-click the Hutchinson Multimedia Encyclopedia icon in the Hutchinson Multimedia Encyclopedia Program Group.

To remove the old (version 1.21) Desktop icon:

  • Ensure that Windows 95 is running.
  • Place the mouse pointer over the 'The Hutchinson Multimedia Encyclopedia 1.21' icon on the Windows 95 Desktop.
  • Highlight the icon, by pressing the left mouse button once.
  • Press the 'Delete' Key on the keyboard. A message box will be displayed asking you to confirm that you wish to send the 'The Hutchinson Multimedia Encyclopedia 1.21' icon to the Recycle Bin.
  • Click on 'Yes'.
