3Com 3C509B Ethernet cards running under Windows 95

There has found to be an issue with the 3Com 3C509B card running in 32-bit plug and play mode under Windows 95. The Pre-installed driver, although correctly identifying the card, will not allow access to a network. This is not the case if Windows 95 has been installed from CD.

Removing plug and play capability using the 3C5X9 configuration disk (available on Apricot Insight BBS Area 37 - 3C5X9CFG.EXE) and then autodetecting the card under "add new hardware" in Windows 95, has found to be a workaround until a permanent solution is available.
