Creative CD Autoplay On MS540 & MS660 (MM
/ MF).
Introduction
MS540s and MS660s are configured to automatically run the
Creative CD program when an audio CD is inserted into the CDROM drive. Unfortunately, the
program has been found have a problem where it continues to access the CD drive when the
CD is stopped or after the CD has finished playing the last track. This continual
accessing of the CDROM drive causes a marginal reduction in the computers performance,
most noticable when a screen saver is running. When the Creative CD program is closed
down, performance returns to normal.
Until there is a new release of the Creative CD program by Creative, one
of the following two solutions can be implemented.
Solution one is to close down the Creative CD program (when it autoruns)
and to run the CD Player program instead. To run the CD Player program, click on START,
PROGRAMS, ACCESSORIES, MULTIMEDIA, then CD PLAYER.
Solution two is to edit the registry so that when an audio CD is
inserted into the drive, the CD Player program is automatically run rather than the
Creative CD program. Use the following steps to edit the registry.
WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems
that may require you to reinstall Windows 95. Apricot cannot guarantee that problems
resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at
your own risk.
Note that you should make a backup copy of the registry by using the Export function
before you edit the registry.
1. Click on START, then RUN, type REGEDIT and press enter.
2. Press F3 to bring up the FIND box.
3. Type CTCD32.EXE and press enter.
4. Double-click on DEFAULT (under NAME).
5. Change the VALUE DATA from:-
c:\program files\creative\ctsnd\program\ctcd32.exe /playdrive %1
to
c:\windows\cdplayer.exe /playdrive %1
6. After changing the VALUE DATA click OK and close the registry editer.
7. Shut-down and restart the machine.
