Microfocus Cobol and Networks
There is a problem with software written in Microfocus Cobol whereby the
software will not run if installed on a network drive if the drive in question is S:. This
is due to some obscure coding in the runtime modules of Microfocus Cobol that reserves
drive S: as a development drive.
This is a situation which Microfocus are aware of , and the problem
should be fixed in all new releases of their Cobol Compiler, but this will only affect new
software. All existing Microfocus Cobol software will contain the problem, and should NOT
be installed on drive S:.
Many thanks to Cliff Stanford of Demon Systems for bringing this to our
attention.
