NetWare 386 v3.10 and the NetWare 386 Server Environment Pack

Novell are now shipping NetWare 386 v3.10. This new version of NetWare 386 uses different API calls for Novell Loadable Modules (drivers) to those used by NetWare 386 v3.0a. This means that the existing Novell NetWare 386 Server Environment Pack will need to be updated with new drivers.

The NetWare 386 specific drivers currently shipped with the pack, and their status with NetWare 386 V3.10a, are detailed below.

1) Adaptec SCSI driver ASW1440.DSK

This driver is currently version 1.0. It will load and operate under NetWare 386 V3.10, but NetWare will recognise it as an 'old' driver and will display a message when loading the driver stating that old API calls are being used and to upgrade to a NetWare v3.10 compatible version when it becomes available.

There appear to be no problems with running a 3.10 server with the old driver, but there may be some marginal speed issues as the old API calls are slower than the new ones.

Adaptec have just issued a new driver to Novell for certification, and as soon as it is available, it will be placed on a new updated Server Environment Pack (and will also go on the Apricot Technical Support BBS).

2) Western Digital LAN driver WDPLUSSV.LAN

The version currently shipped in the Environment Pack (version 1.00) will NOT operate under NetWare 386 v3.10. There is a new version available (version 2.00) that will work with NetWare 386 v3.10 but NOT v3.0a, and it can be downloaded from the Apricot Technical Support Bulletin Board from a password protected area. The password will be supplied on request for people who have existing Server Environment Packs and who need to upgrade.

As soon as the new Adaptec driver is available, the Server Environment Pack will be updated so that it has drivers for NetWare 386 v3.0a and v3.10.
