NetWare 3.11 SBACKUP with FTe and DDS (DAT) Tape Drives

In IPB 2087 (issued on October 25 1991), we detailed a problem with SBACKUP and DDS drives whereby SBACKUP ejects the DDS tape cartridge upon completion of an operation (backup or restore). This would cause problems on FTe servers, where if the system door was closed during backup/restore, the ejected tape could foul the path of the door and prevent it from opening.

We reported this problem to Novell, who, under our IMSP II agreement with them, have just issued us with an updated SBACKUP.NLM that does NOT eject the DDS tape cartridges upon completion of a backup or restore.

This new version of SBACKUP.NLM is a direct replacement for the one supplied with NetWare 3.11, and includes all the same functionality as the existing version. The new version should be copied into SYS:SYSTEM, replacing the copy that is already there.

The new SBACKUP.NLM can be found on the Apricot Technical Support Bulletin Board, in File Area 37. The file to download is SBACKUP.ZIP.

Note: We recommend that you take a backup copy of the existing SBACKUP.NLM before installing the new version.
