WordPerfect 6 on PCs using Upper Memory Blocks (UMBs)

We have recently had a number of reports of users with Word Perfect 6 running on various Apricot computers that are using upper memory blocks to load TSRs and drivers high, whereby the system hangs when Word Perfect 6 exits back to DOS. Typically the reported problems were on systems attached to networks where UMB's had been used to load the network drivers high, however the problem can occur on any PC using UMB's, whether it is networked or not.

This problem has been traced to the fact that Word Perfect 6 by default uses upper memory during operation, and as a result will corrupt any drivers and TSRs if they are loaded high (including network drivers).

The solution is to use the '/DU' switch when loading Word Perfect to disable WordPerfect's use of Upper Memory (i.e. WP /DU).

Thanks to Touchstone Computers for reporting this to us!
