Microsoft release new Virtual Timing Driver
for Windows 3.1
Following on the release of the new VIPX.386 by Novell to cure DOS box
hanging problems (see IPB 2147 for details), Microsoft have just
released a replacement for the Windows 3.1 Virtual Timing Driver (VTD) that is built in to
the product.
WW0863.EXE, 24004 bytes, contains the following files.....
VTDA.386 |
11532 bytes |
07/04/93 13:27 |
README.TXT |
6586 bytes |

The new driver is to help with systems that get hanging DOS boxes when
within Windows where the screen stays black with a flashing cursor in the top left corner
(Novell describe this as the 'black screen of death'!). The README.TXT file contains a
series of recommendations for Windows system tuning to try and eliminate the problem, with
the new VTDA.386 driver as the last suggested fix.
The file WW0863.EXE is available from file area 6 of Apricot Insight
BBS. It can also be obtained from Microsoft's Online service.
