Adaptec AHA1640.DSK driver for NetWare 3.12

With the release of Novell's NetWare v3.12, Adaptec have released a new version of the driver for the Adaptec AHA1640 MCA SCSI card. This new release, AHA1640.DSK version 2.34 (21,749 bytes, dated 10/06/93 10:40) has been found to have problems in certain configurations.

  1. If a server has more than 2 SCSI disks attached to an Adaptec AHA1640 card, the first time the SCSI bus is interrogated for available devices, it will only report the first 2 disks. This can prevent spanned volumes from mounting first time, and can stop the INSTALL.NLM program from seeing all the available disk devices on the system.

  2. On a server with more than 16MB of RAM, accessing the files on the server's DOS boot partition can cause the server to hang. Examples of this include editing STARTUP.NCF in the INSTALL.NLM program.

We are making Adaptec aware of these problems and hope to have an updated driver from them to fix these problems in the near future, but in the mean-time we recommend that AHA1640.DSK version 2.22 be used on systems that have more than 2 SCSI disks off a single AHA1640 SCSI controller, or on systems with more than 16MB of RAM.

Version 2.22 of AHA1640.DSK (19,570 bytes, dated 26/07/91 12:00) can be downloaded from File Area 37 of Apricot Insight BBS.
