Configuring Windows NT 3.1 to use the Adaptec 1510 on a XEN-LS II

When configuring Windows NT 3.1 to use the Adaptec 1510 card, the Windows NT Adaptec driver is configured to use IRQ 11 by default. Unfortunately IRQ 11 is reserved for security on the XEN-LS II.

The Windows NT Adaptec driver can be configured to use a separate IRQ address. This can be done by editing the Windows NT System Registry.

Install the Adaptec 1510 card into the XEN-LS II, making sure that it is using the jumper is set to IRQ 9.

Install the SCSI Adapter: Adaptec 151x/152x/AIC 6260/6360 from within Windows Setup and Add SCSI Adapters option.

The System Registry should then be modified to change the IRQ address. The following steps should be taken to modify the System Registry:-

Run the program REGEDT32 to invoke the System Registry Editor

Select the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE on Local Machine section

Select SYSTEM

CurrentControlSet

Services

Sparrow

Once Sparrow is selected add the following by using Add Key :-

Parameters

Device0

Select Device0, choose Edit and Add Value

Enter Value: DriverParameter, accept data type REG_SZ

Enter string IRQ=9

Once the above has been completed exit the System Registry and shutdown Windows NT. Windows NT is now configured to use the Adaptec 1510 card.
