Installing Sony CD-ROM drive under OS/2 2.1
on XEN-PCM
Problems have been encountered when installing the Sony CD-ROM drivers
under OS/2 2.1 on a XEN-PCm. The Sony CD-ROM drive is connected via a SoundBlaster card.
The following installation guidelines have been recommended:-
Download and unpack the file SONY31.ZIP from Area 5 on Apricot Insight
BBS.
Install OS/2 2.1 on the XEN-PCm. Once the installation is complete the
CD-ROM drivers require to be installed.
Select OS/2 System
Select System Setup
Select Selective Install
Select CD-ROM Device Support
Select OK.
Select OTHER from CD-ROM devices
Select OK
Select Install
Select Install from Source Directory A:
Insert OS/2 disk 12 when prompted.
This copies the required CD-ROM drivers. After the drivers have been
copied, copy the downloaded file SONYB31A.ADD to C:\OS2
directory.
Edit the CONFIG.SYS file and add the following line to the end.
BASEDEV=SONYB31A.ADD /A:0 /P:230
Save the CONFIG.SYS file, shutdown OS/2 and re-boot. OS/2 2.1 will now
be able to access the CD-ROM drive.
Sample CONFIG.SYS drivers
IFS=C:\OS2\CDFS.IFS /Q
DEVICE=C:\OS2\OS2CDROM.DMD /Q
BASEDEV=SONYB31A.ADD /A:0 /P:230
