New NetWare DOS/Windows Client Drivers &
Shells
Novell have now released version 1.20 of the VLM DOS workstation shell,
and at the same time have re-organised the way in which they make the update files
available to end-users. They have also announced that there will be no further development
of the NETX shell.
The files to download for the relevant NetWare DOS Client shell files
now are as follows:-
NET33X.EXE |
Contains NETX, XMSNETX and EMSNETX version 3.32 (940524), and the
Windows NETWARE.DRV and NETWARE.HLP that is associated with the NETX shells. |
VLMUP1.EXE |
This file contains the latest version of the VLM client files (now
version 1.20), along with the latest LSL.COM, IPXODI.COM, and the Novell supplied DOS ODI
drivers. |
WINDR1.EXE |
This file contains the Windows driver files for DOS workstations using
Windows 3.x. It contains all the necessary Windows files for VLM based clients, and all
the VxD drivers for NETX based systems (NETWARE.DRV and NETWARE.HLP for NETX based clients
can be found in NET33X.EXE). |
NWDLL1.EXE |
This file contains the latest Windows Dynamic Link Libraries (DLLs) for
NetWare DOS clients running VLMs or NETX. |
All files contain documentation, and in addition, there are two files
(DOSUP9.TXT and WINUP9.TXT) that briefly explain the reasons behind the reorganisation of
the client update files. Also, the version 1.20 VLM files in VLMUP1.EXE, and the
NETWARE.DRV from WINDR1.EXE sign on as pre-release. Below is Novells
explanation, along with a brief note explaining the confusion that may be caused by
reverting to VLMUP1.EXE as an archive name when they have already released VLMUP1.EXE and
VLMUP2.EXE as update files.
Note: Although the v1.20 VLMs released in VLMUP1.EXE
return "Pre-release" with their version number, they are fully tested and have
completed BETA test. The file VLMUP2.EXE from NOVLIB\05 was removed as the VLMs contained
in VLMUP1.EXE are newer. The new naming scheme required the three files (VLMUP1.EXE,
NEDLL1.EXE & WINDR1.EXE) be in synch on their revision number upon initial release.
