Problems installing Windows NT 3.51 on FT//ex 1500 Systems

Problems have been found when installing Windows NT 3.51 on the FT//ex 1500 system.

When installing Windows NT 3.51, the system crashes on setup disk 2 with the following message:-

HAL: MPS table invalid checksum
HAL: No MPS Table Found

HAL: This HAL.DLL requires an MPS version 1.1 system
Replace HAL.DLL with the correct HAL for this system
The system is halting.

To overcome the problem, the FT//ex 1500 bios requires to be upgraded to version R03 B8. This bios version can be download from Apricot Insight BBS. The following files are required from file area 43:

AFLASH.EXE
MSG.DAT
R03_B8.BIN

To upgrade the bios, boot from a clean bootable DOS system diskette and execute the command AFLASH R03_B8.BIN. Once the new bios has been upgraded, the system will automatically re-boot.

Power the system off. Press and hold down the F10 key. Power the system back on and when the system starts to beep, release the F10 key.

Press CTRL-ALT-ESC to enter into the bios configuration screen, choose the option Load system defaults and then press ESC to exit and save the configuration.

Windows NT 3.51 will now be able to install successfully.

This IPB supersedes IPB 2248 issued on 26th February 1996. Please destroy the previous version.
