Novell NetWare Updates

Novell have recently released a number of software updates for NetWare. As always, these updates have been placed into File Area 37 of the Insight BBS (and are also available by anonymous FTP from ftp.apricot.co.uk in /bbs/area37).

This archive contains the latest released updates for Novell’s SMS support NLMs (TSAxxx.NLM) as used by SMS compliant backup applications. The update applies to NetWare 3.11 and above, and contains full documentation.

Note however that during testing within MEPCD’s System Support Group, we have found an error (that has been reported back to Novell, who acknowledge the problem) where the version of DSBACKER.NLM (v4.96) included in this update will fail to load under NetWare 4.11. This can in turn cause problems with a number of backup applications that want to back up ‘Server Specific Information’ from the NDS database. The work-around for this problem is currently to use the original NetWare 4.11 release of DSBACKER.NLM (v4.46). This can be found in File Area 37 as DSBACKER.ZIP.

As soon as Novell release an update for this issue, we will make it available and issue another bulletin.

The above issue only affects NetWare 4.11. NetWare 4.10, 4.02 and 4.01 are fine with the version of DSBACKER.NLM supplied in SMSUP6.EXE.
