Installing the Intel EtherExpress PRO/100 B TX PCI LAN Adapter in FT2200 Server Products

Problems have been encountered when installing Intel’s PRO/100B TX PCI LAN adapter in the FT2200 Server Product. With Novell NetWare, where the system will hang when loading the E100B.LAN driver. The error " PCI Bus not supported" may be displayed but with the latest service pack installed the system simply halts.

The error was initially noticed with Novell NetWare but has also been reproduced under Microsoft NT Server and Workstation.

The problem occurs when using the card in Slots 4, 5 and 6 (which are controlled by the secondary PCI bus).

The solution to this at present is to use slots 1, 2 or 3 for the Intel PRO/100B LAN Adapter.

As this is a hardware issue with the bridged PCI bus architecture this advice must be taken for ALL operating systems
