The TS150/5 Tape Drive

The TS150/5 tape drive from Apricot is supported by SCO Xenix on Apricot's AT bus machines. The MCA version of the tape drive is not currently supported by SCO Xenix VR 2.2.3 on the Qi series, but a fix for this is being prepared, and you will be bulletined as soon as it is available.

To install a TS150/5 tape drive in your system, run the Xenix command - 'mkdev tape' and select the option to install a cartridge tape drive. Choose the following options:-

Card Type 3 (Type W)
DMA Channel 1
Interrupt Vector 5
Base Address 0338H

If you are installing the tape drive on an AT bus machine you will have to set jumpers and dip switches as follows:-

Jumpers DACK=1, DRQ=1, IRQ=5
Switches ON 1 2 6 7
OFF 3 4 5 8 9 10

N.B. These differ from the MD-DOS settings.

The latest revision firmware in the TS150/5 (rev 34), auto detects the type of tape inserted in the drive, and will switch to QIC-120 (125MB) format on the Series II Gold tapes supplied by Apricot and used in the Apricot SCSI tape drive. If QIC-150 (150MB) operation is required, it is necessary to use Series II Gold Plus or DC600XTD tapes in the drive. Neither QIC-120 or QIC-150 are compatible with the Emerald tape drive, although tapes created on the QIC version of that drive may be read in the TS150/5 unit.

Finally, please note that it is necessary for the tape unit itself to be powered on before booting the operating system. Failure to do this will result in the device being unavailable until the system is rebooted.
