Hypertec Memory Cards

As announced earlier in the month, these cards commenced shipment at the beginning of the month. It is important to check some items when installing these cards in Qi and VX FT server machines.

  1. The Hypertec card supplied by Apricot is a SIMM based card for maximum flexibility; this card is not available from any other supplier in the United Kingdom.
  2. The machine ROM BIOS must be 1.02.14 or later.
  3. Configurations over 16MB under SCO Unix require Unix 3.2 version 2 or the Unix 3.2.1 (Open Desktop).
  4. No DMA support is available above the 16MB boundary.
  5. The installation requires the reference disk to be booted twice. This is essential for the card to be recognised and used properly.
  6. Ensure that when adding memory to a card the instructions on pages 13-20 of the HyperRam User's Guide are followed carefully. The card supports both 16 bit and 32 bit MCA slots but the positioning of the SIMMs can be 16 bit or 32 bit specific disabling the other configuration.
  7. This card is replacing the Tecmar 16-bit memory card for use in Apricot machines. It can be used in all MCA configurations where the Tecmar has previously been used.
  8. Only Hypertec SIMMs should be used in Hypertec cards, use of any other SIMMs will invalidate the warranty of the card.
