New backup devices ( QIC-525 cartridge and 1.2 GB DDS )

The 1.2GB DDS (DAT) unit commenced shipment on the 22nd November (product code TI44433). This half height unit can be installed in the VX FT server with minimal effort. A replacement SCSI cable is supplied as the connector on the backup of the drive is inverted. A bank of dip switches on the drive is used to vary SCSI parameters. A jumper can be used to set the SCSI ID but this is unnecessary.

Switch Setting Function
1 OFF
2 ON SCSI ID (set to 2)
3 OFF
4 ON SCSI I or SCSI II
5 OFF SCSI Parity
6 OFF SCSI Diagnostics
7-8 Reserved Reserved

The two black terminating resistors must be removed before the drive is installed in a VX FT server.

Under Xenix and Unix the drive is simply addressed as a standard tape on SCSI ID 2 if the switches are set as above.

The QIC-525 1/4" cartridge is also a half height internal VX FT option which again requires the removal of any terminating resistors on the tape unit. This time the SCSI ID is set with a jumper which should be:

/----------\
*          *         |*   	*|           	*         *          *
	       \---------/             /------------\
*          *	       *	 *            |*          *|         *
	      /----------\             \------------/
*          *         |*	 *|	*          *         *
	      \-----------/

This drive does not require the use of a different SCSI cable.

Media for the DDS unit is available on product code DA44990, there is a choice for the QIC-525 unit, 3M DC6320 (320MB) 600 ft tapes are GH46142 and the 1000 ft 3M DC6525 (525MB) tapes are GH46143. Tapes used in the QIC-525 unit currently must be manufactured by 3M, equivalents are not acceptable at this juncture.
