Apricot Petrel Disk Controller Card

The Apricot Petrel disk controller card is now shipping in all Qi MCA desktop machines. For those of you that are unfamiliar with this item, it is in simplified terms, an ESDI to SCSI converter/controller card, offering an ESDI interface to the machine bus and a SCSI interface to the hard disk bus.

For machines to be able to utilise this card it must have BIOS version 1.2.21 or later.

For this card to support Xenix or Unix operating systems, the version of two PAL chips and the firmware revision must be checked. The PALs are located at IC5 (must be PETD005C) and IC9 (must be PETD009B) or later. The firmware on board must be 1.02.00 or later.

The operating system must be installed for ESDI not SCSI. The disks being controlled by this card must be badtracked using the fast scan option to create a bad track table.

At this moment in time the Petrel card is unsupported in the Apricot FT range.
