XEN-LS II Add-in Options
The XEN-LS II has a different I/O memory map than previous Apricot
systems and by default has all IRQ's (except 9 on the present version) allocated. However,
IRQ 5 can be freed by disabling the CD-ROM drive and IRQ 15 by disabling the Audio DAC,
this done from within the system's setup menu (Alt-s at boot up). This provides a means of
adding cards that require use of IRQ's. The standard tape options are the existing SCSI
tape units for FTs/FTe connected to an Adaptec 1510 controller. However, if it is desired
to use the External Archive unit we advise using the following settings. The Specialix SI
Host card settings are also detailed below.
External Archive Streamer
The streamer connects to the Archive SC402 adapter card. This card
should be strapped to use I/O address 220h, IRQ 5, DMA 1. Note also that the booklet from
Archive that accompanies the streamer may have the strapping for I/O address 220h
incorrectly shown. The correct strapping for these settings is below:

As mentioned above, disable the CD-ROM drive to free IRQ 5 from the
setup menu.
When adding the driver to the kernel with mkdev tape do not select auto
detect for card type, IRQ, I/O address, and DMA. The driver will not see the card on the
correct settings. Enter the settings as:

Specialix
The Specialix SI Host card has two 16 way rotary switches and a two
position jumper to select its BIOS address. The card's IRQ is programmed by the driver, as
is the alternative to using an IRQ, which is polled mode. We advise using polled mode due
to the shortage of IRQs available and advise that the maximum number of Specialix ports
should not be greater than 32 without prior consultation with Unix Support.
When installing the Specialix driver you are given the switch settings
to use for the BIOS address. But this informations is only acting as an aid to setting the
switches correctly - the driver will find the card at any legal address set by the
switches. Therefore do not worry if the installation offers a different BIOS address than
the settings suggested below. However, the selection of polled mode must be correctly made
by selecting the option to change the values offered by the installation routine. IRQ 15
can be used, but this involves disabling the Audio DAC from within the system's setup menu
(Alt-s at boot up) to free up the IRQ, but as already stated we advise not doing so due to
the lack of available IRQs for add in cards.
The switch and strap settings to use are:
This will set the card to BIOS address D0000. Note that to use this
Adapter BIOS address you must select the "Wrt. Protect" option for the setup
menu for the system. Our advice is to select all the locations in the "Adapter
memory" menu of the "Advanced options" as Write Protected. What this
actually does is to disable the caching of these memory locations - the Specialix card,
like many other cards, cannot use an area of cached memory.
