Installation of BusLogic BT-646S MDA SCSI Controller

The instructions supplied with the card should generally cover installation; however the following additional information may be required.

  1. If multiple BusLogic card are installed they must be on different interrupts with the primary card using interrupt 15 under SCO UNIX. Please remember SCO Xenix is not supported by the BusLogic card.
  2. In a drive installation containing only non-synchronous drives or a root drive which is not capable of Synchronous transfers we advise the Sync option on the reference disk should be set to disabled.
  3. When installing SCO UNIX from scratch with a BusLogic card, you must install the Extended Utilities at the same time as the Runtime System (i.e. without rebooting). Failure to install the Extended Utilities will prevent the BusLogic driver being linked into the kernel resulting in an unbootable system.
  4. When adding the first SCSI device on the second controller and it asks if you would like to add another adapter (the default offered is "auto" which will fail). Take the 'h' option which lists card types, you must manually enter btk (the BusLogic driver) at this point.
  5. Only one BusLogic MDA SCSI card should be required on most FTe installations. It is generally desirable on FTs to have two cards where the rear bay is populated (it will of course be needed if a Duplexing solution is being considered by the customer). Only installation of several very fast drives is likely to need a second card but installation of two cards does provide additional redundancy. Any external (to the server) SCSI devices must be connected on a separate card as the BusLogic is not supported in the middle of the SCSI Bus.
