FT//s & FT//e Servers with SCO UNIX

The following points should be noted when configuring the new range of FT//s and FT//e servers with the MCA-2 motherboard:-

The motherboard will ultimately support up to 192MB with an 80486 CPU or 256MB with a Pentium CPU using 32MB SIMMs modules. Apricot believes it is unnecessary to use any memory expansion cards in these new systems and we will not be supporting installation of these cards. It is important to understand that installing MCA bus based memory will severely impede system performance in the new servers .

The new Server Environment Pack (Rel 7.0) should only be used on this machine to install the driver for the 3Com 3C527 32-bit Ethernet card. The LITE and UPS options MUST NOT be installed. Earlier versions of the Server Environment should not be used on the new machines, a new version of the Server Environment to fully support FT//s and FT//e will be available in the very near future.

Autoconfigure on a reference disk with FT//s or FT//e servers can cause significant problems with multiple BusLogic cards. Please consult UNIX Support before running autoconfigure if you have more than one BusLogic controller. A later bulletin will cover this area in detail.

A new version of security is being produced for FT//s and FT//e machines running UNIX. This should be available in the near future, please do not use release 2.0 or earlier on these machines.

In addition to MCA cards supplied by Apricot the following cards have also been tried in the new servers by UNIX Support.

Specialix RIO
Software Forge X.25

The Specialix RIO is now a fully supported option by Apricot in the new servers.
