General Information

This is an update to the current connection options and facilities available from Apricot UNIX Support.

  1. Modems

The following two lines are currently available for dial-up file transfer facilities. We will be adding the option of interactive access from the 1st October 1993. Access to the MS-DOS Insight BBS is already available via the UNIX Server allowing companies if they wish to use one UNIX link for electronic mail and file transfer from all Apricot's externally available systems.

    Hayes Ultra 96 021-717-0456
    Telebit Worldblazer 021-717-0457

  2. Utilities Disk

Release 5.0 of the Apricot UNIX Support utilities disk is now available from the UNIX Server or from the MS-DOS Insight BBS (file area 39). This disk contains a UNIX monitor which will assist in performance analysis, example backup scripts , a remote printing utility and other useful tools.

  3. Video cards and X

We are currently testing video cards with SCO Open Server 3.0/SCO XSight 4.1 as there is currently no 1024x768 by 256 colour driver for the on-board Cirrus 5410/542* VGA chip in XEN-LS II, XEN-PC, FT//e and FT//s. To date we have found the Orchid Farenheit 1280 card functions successfully with the standard SCO driver in our ISA bus machines. Please call for more information.

  4. UNIX varieties

We are currently examining the UNIXWare product from Novell as an additional UNIX platform to SCO on which to offer support. We would welcome any feedback on this product (or any other UNIX's) where you feel there is a need for support from Apricot. In particular we in UNIX Support currently enjoy an excellent support relationship with SCO Technical Support and we would like feedback on the quality of support provided by other UNIX vendors.
