SCO Open Server/Desktop & Cirrus Logic Video

SCO Open Server 3.0 and Desktop 3.0 have high resolution graphics support for the Cirrus Logic 5426 found in several Apricot machines.

On later XEN-LS II and XEN-PC machines with the Cirrus Logic 5426 installed X-Windows will run in 1024x768 mode with 256 colours using the GD542x driver supplied with the operating system.

However on the FT//s and FT//e MCA-2 servers the same standard Cirrus Logic 5426 driver failed to work satisfactorily. The problem was caused by the different memory address for video on MCA. SCO have now produced a simple modified binary to correct this problem.

The file vbiosd is now available on the MS-DOS bulletin board in file area 39 and on the UNIX server in /uuinfo/APRICOT This file should replace the existing file in the /usr/lib/X11/vbios directory.

Please note this new video bios daemon is only applicable to Open Server/Desktop 3.0 and not to earlier versions of Open Desktop or XSight.
